Tormek Summer Exhibition 2025
In Between Trees – Through Grind and Motion
This summer, Tormek invites you to a new group exhibition where the tree takes center stage – as theme, symbol, and inspiration. In Between Trees – Through Grind and Motion explores the intersection of artistic expression and craftsmanship, between the industrial and the organic. Through sculptures, installations, and sound works, a physical and emotional landscape emerges, where the tree serves as a reminder of the passage of time and humanity’s place in both the tangible and the abstract.

The Continuation of Tormek's Art Exhibitions
At the heart of the exhibition, a series of mobiles hover — poetic compositions in balance between motion and stillness, precision and intuition. Each piece in the exhibition reveals the inherent power and versatility of wood, showcasing how the material can be transformed into both function and artistic expression.
In Between Trees is a natural continuation of Tormek’s previous exhibition Sharp Makers, deepening the conversation around material, form, and creation.
The exhibition is produced in collaboration with Trunk & Wise.

In Between Trees – The Artists
OSKAR GUSTAFSSON (SE)
Oskar Gustafsson is a designer and artist based in Gothenburg and Bottna, Bohuslän. His work circulates around humans' relationship to nature and its materiality. Through sculpture he often investigates different bodies' relationship to each other - the human body, a landscape as a body, or the tree as a body. Time and human existence are central throughout his work. Oskars main materials are wood, stone and copper plates, where the making and learning with the body is central in the process. Often moving between traditional techniques and the more unconventional and experimental.
Lélia DEMOISY (FR)
Born in 1991, Lélia Demoisy lives and works in Yvelines, France. She graduated from the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2015 and received the “Jeune talent” grant from the Mécène & Loire Foundation in 2016. From the outset of her studies, her research focused on the idea of fusion with nature. She even immersed herself for several days in a Canadian forest in the middle of winter to place herself at the heart of experimentation. These explorations greatly influenced her practice, and the choice of sculpture and installation as a way to convey a living experience became evident.
Max Bainbridge (UK)
Born in London in 1991, Max Bainbridge studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art, from which he graduated in 2013. Spanning a material language of wood and metal Bainbridge’s work seeks a grounded presence in the physicality of the sculpted object through his enduring relationship to the natural body of the tree. By working with trees that have fallen where they once grew, his sculptures are a direct and intimate connection to land and place.
Emi Shinmura (JP)
Emi Shinmura is an Anglo-Japanese woodworker and designer. She studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and lives and works between the UK, Germany and Japan. Her work has been exhibited overseas, including at the Venice Biennale.
In 2019 Emi took up a half-year apprenticeship with her aunt Harumi, a well known master craftswoman in the mountains of Kyushu in Japan, where she was able to deepen her knowledge of traditional Japanese carpentry by building a bunkhouse.
Sanna Lindholm (SE)
Sanna Lindholm (born 1987 in Gävle) is based in Gothenburg. In 2018, she earned a master’s degree from HDK-Valand and has since exhibited her work in solo and duo shows at venues such as the Sigtuna Foundation, Trollhättan Art Gallery,
Galleri Cora Hillebrand, 3:e Våningen, and Galleri Svarta Gran. Lindholm also works with public art commissions - for example, she created the altar table Växtkraft for the New Adult Psychiatry Clinic in Växjö, as well as a ceremonial urn for Mölndal City Hall.
About the Tormek Exhibition Space
To celebrate Tormek's 50th anniversary we wanted to be able to invite the sharpest community in the world to our premises, and to tell the Tormek story.
Tormek's Museum
The museum Tormek – A Sharp Story presents the inspiring journey of Torgny Jansson and his vision of a low-speed, water-cooled sharpening machine — an idea that grew into a multinational, market-leading innovator in edge sharpening technology. Discover Tormek’s evolution from the first prototype to today’s patented solutions.
Tormek Mini Concept Store
We wanted to offer our visitors the full Tormek experience — so we opened the Tormek Mini Concept Store right next to the museum. Here you’ll find the complete product range: from machines and jigs to accessories and even some sharp-looking merchandise.
Tormek Exhibition Space
As part of our 50th anniversary celebration, we invited Tormek users from around the world to showcase their work in the exhibition Sharp Makers 2023. What began as a one-time event has since grown into a cherished summer tradition, drawing visitors from across Europe to the small town of Lindesberg. In 2025, we’re taking it to the next level with In Between Trees – Through Grind and Motion.
