A batch of housings for the Tormek T-1 Kitchen Knife Sharpener in Ash Green was discovered in production to have a particular deviation. They had gotten a subtle sparkle in the powder coating. 55 machines had already been produced, and an additional 84 housings had the deviation, but was otherwise flawless. Bottom line, the glimmering finish fell outside Tormek’s official color standard.

What should we do? Returning the housings for recoating would have been wasteful, and 55 machines had already been produced that could not be sold as Ash Green. So the team chose the sensible route: producing a limited edition instead of transporting perfectly good parts back and forth for recoating.
